The Story

The Co-operators Group Limited is a Canadian co-operative with more than $42.5 billion in assets under administration. Through its group of companies, The Co-operators offers home, auto, life, group, travel, commercial, and farm insurance, as well as investment products. In addition to being a premier provider of insurance to Canadian homes, businesses, and farms, the company has a high reputation for service to its communities and employees.

Guidewire has been a key player in the co-operative’s Common Systems initiative—its multifaceted vision to implement the same modern core system solutions across its P&C insurance organizations. The company’s deployment of Guidewire InsuranceSuite provides an efficient digital operating platform coupled with flexibility to tune products and processes to best serve different customer segments and channels.

The Co-operators is now running its mission-critical core processes spanning claims, underwriting, policy administration, and billing on Guidewire. These pre-integrated systems, built on a common technology platform, enable The Co-operators to leverage processes, business rules, and skills across its group of P&C companies. The co-operative is also lowering the cost of high-volume/low-value service transactions such as bill payments. With their newfound efficiencies, advisors and service centers can focus on providing higher-value services to their customers.

By using Guidewire Predictive Analytics for Claims to embed predictive insights into its claims system, the insurer can deliver actionable insights to enable key decisions. “Ultimately, this is all about our clients,” said Carl Lambert, Vice President for Business Intelligence and Chief Data and Analytics Officer.

The Co-operators is also leveraging Guidewire digital engagement and data visualization solutions for enhanced customer experience and service, selecting Guidewire Digital and Analytics products. Guidewire PartnerConnect Consulting member EY is working with The Co-operators and Guidewire on the digital and data product implementation project, which includes digital applications to enrich the online experience of its members, agents, and partners.
