API Engineer- Micro-Services

Guidewire is searching for an API / micro-services Engineer with experience designing, architecting, building, and maintaining event driven micro-services. As an API Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering behind our NextGen HazardHub micro-services ecosystem, the most comprehensive set of property risk data, casualty risk data, and hazard risk scoring in the P&C insurance industry. You’ll join a team of talented front-end, back-end, and security engineers taking a key part in strategic API, middle-tier, and database technology architectural and solution decisions. You will be responsible for configuration, platform operations, and troubleshooting of API products.
You must have strong knowledge of API technologies (such as OpenAPI, GraphQL, Protocol Buffers, REST, etc), experience with relations databases such as Postgres, software engineering architecture, strategy, as well as current cloud technologies (such as Docker Containers, GCP, AWS, & Kubernetes). Knowledge of modern programming languages (specifically Go is a plus), and SCM / CI / CD technologies (such as Git/GitHub & GitHub Actions) is necessary as well.

Responsibilities
As a part of a team, design, develop, and maintain geospatial API’s and micro-services to serve our Hazard data
Collaborate with GIS analysts and Product teams to define API requirements
Write application code as well as infrastructure code (IaC) to participate in all stages of API development, from prototype to production
Maintain existing codebases in languages like Go (GoLang), Python, Scala, and Ruby, and help drive technology choices in the future
Build stable, scalable, and efficient backend services
Process CI/CD pipelines / GitHub Actions
Troubleshoot live systems and evaluate / correct bugs in the codebase
Conduct code reviews and work with peers to grow the team’s skills
Monitor API performance and troubleshoot issues
Ensure API security and authentication mechanisms are robust
Requirements
5+ years of experience with enterprise-level APIs / Micro Services
BS (in Computer Science or related field) or equivalent related work experience.
Strong working knowledge of current API best practices, architectures, integration styles, technologies, and platforms.
Hands-on experience with back-end languages such as Go, Python, Ruby, Java or Scala.
Specifically Go experience desirable
Proficiency with Cloud services such as GCP or AWS.
Experience with container / orchestration such as Docker, Kubernetes
Proficiency with SCM (Git), CI (GitHub Actions)
Proficiency with web services (REST, OpenAPI, protobuf)
Proficiency with SQL, PostgGIS experience desirable
Experience with Terraform (IaC) desirable
Demonstrated ability to identify and adopt new technologies as well as the correct places to maintain current standards
Familiarity with risk models and other data constructs in the insurance industry is a plus.
