The Story

The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group was established on January 1, 2014, with the merger of three long-standing mutual insurance companies in Ontario, Canada. Representing more than a century of hands-on commitment to local communities, The Commonwell provides Commercial and Personal lines products based on the premise of its three legacy companies—maintaining a focus on local presence and service to create strong long-term relationships for the benefit of the greater community.

The merger of these mutual companies presented the newly formed entity with an opportunity to rethink its growth plan and, in so doing, its technology path. Finding an out-of-the-box solution that could be deployed with minimal customization was key, along with the capability to leverage a SaaS platform.

The Commonwell chose Guidewire core and data products for policy administration, underwriting, client data, rating, reinsurance, claims, and billing management and integrated Guidewire DataHub and InfoCenter as its enterprise data management and analytics solution. Guidewire’s core, reinsurance, and data products were simultaneously deployed across all lines of business in Ontario, including Automobile, Farm, Residential, and Small Commercial. All are now running as part of Deloitte’s InsurCloud platform along with support from Deloitte, a Guidewire PartnerConnect Consulting Premier member.

Guidewire deployed in InsurCloud has already significantly enhanced the insurer’s member, agent, and broker experience by increasing efficiencies in underwriting, billing, and rating accuracy. 

“Through Commonwell Connect, our brokers have a seamless single sign-on journey from their broker management system into The Commonwell Guidewire core systems,” said Enrico Mastrangeli, Vice President of Distribution and Member Innovation at The Commonwell.
