The Story

Founded in 1898 by a group of local farmers, Mutual of Enumclaw offers insurance products for individuals, families, farms, and businesses exclusively through local independent agents in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. Recognized for being one of the top 100 employers in the state of Washington, the company is committed to meeting its policyholder, agent, and employee needs.

The insurer’s technology modernization journey began with its decision to enhance the quality of its customers’ experience. Seeking core and digital products that would make it easier for both its users and its customers to transact business, the firm relaced its core billing application with Guidewire BillingCenter to manage its billing operations, including agency and direct bill. The new easy-to-maintain system enabled Mutual of Enumclaw to make changes faster in order to respond to a variety of agent and customer needs. It also lowered IT costs by consolidating and standardizing billing systems and processes on a common platform.

Looking beyond billing, the insurer then selected Guidewire ClaimCenter as its new claims management system. The new system provides greater visibility into the company’s claims process to improve claims management by expediting cycle times and improving claims outcomes.

“The greatest risk in choosing a processing system like this is whether or not the vendor will be around in 10 years to support it,” said David Wilson, Chief Information Officer at Mutual of Enumclaw. “Guidewire is different, and it already proved itself when we deployed BillingCenter several years ago. In fact, based on our experience with BillingCenter, we did not consider any other options outside of ClaimCenter.”

Mutual of Enumclaw also wanted to provide omnichannel digital services to its vendors and facilitate real-time, easy communication between vendors, adjusters, and policyholders. The insurer was able to deliver on key strategic imperatives to improve customer service. These additional Guidewire core and digital products now provide real-time service and transparency to members, brokers, and vendors, helping Mutual of Enumclaw to continue to honor its commitment to meet its policyholder, agent, and employee needs.
