Guidewire's Industry-Leading Web-Based Claims System to Transform Sequoia's End-to-End Claim Process

MONTEREY and SAN MATEO Calif. , February 23, 2006

Sequoia Insurance Company, a multi-line property and casualty insurer serving the western United States, and Guidewire Software®, a leading provider of solutions to property and casualty and workers' compensation insurers, today announced that Sequoia Insurance Company has selected Guidewire ClaimCenter® as the insurer's new claims processing system. ClaimCenter will support end-to-end claim processing for all of Sequoia's lines of business, which include Commercial Multi-Peril, Auto, Homeowner's, and Workers' Compensation.

"It became clear in the evaluation process that Guidewire has extensive industry expertise, as evidenced by the design of the application and its ease of use for adjusters," said Lola Hogan, vice president, claims, Sequoia Insurance Company. "ClaimCenter's automated workflow and assignment capabilities will enable us to enhance services to our agents and policyholders. Our adjusters' time will be optimized, allowing them to perform value-added activities for a more efficient claims handling process."

ClaimCenter provides the Sequoia Insurance claims department with the solution to enable the insurer to migrate from a 12-year-old, in-house developed legacy system to a modern web-based claims system. Using ClaimCenter, Sequoia will be able to:

  • Automate controls and streamline the claims process for all lines of business with a single web-based claims system;

  • Detect claim fraud via built-in ISO integration;

  • Create electronic claim files for ease of information sharing between relevant parties;

  • Improve supervision of, and visibility into, the claim handling process via management dashboards; and

  • Have multiple claims open on the adjuster's desktop simultaneously, allowing adjusters to multi-task and be more efficient.

"One of Guidewire ClaimCenter's strengths lies in the fact that the application does not require the custom coding approach so typical of older technology systems," said David E. Brandeis, vice president and chief information officer, Sequoia Insurance Company. "ClaimCenter is highly configurable, which will enable us to better and more quickly meet our organization's business requirements."

"Sequoia Insurance clearly understands the benefits their business can realize with a modern, web-based claims solution," said Jeffrey Simpson, chairman and chief executive officer, Guidewire Software. "We are pleased to welcome Sequoia Insurance as a Guidewire customer and to provide them with a claims system that will help them transform their business."

Guidewire ClaimCenter is a leading end-to-end claims system for property and casualty and workers' compensation insurance. ClaimCenter's flexible business rules enable claims organizations to optimize and monitor the claim process. Claims executives can define, enforce, and continually refine their preferred claim handling practices. In addition, a modern technology architecture, web client, and web services support enable lower total cost of ownership in any environment.
