One of my favorite things about skiing at a resort is the freedom to choose what you want to do and when you want to do it. Of course, a good amount of planning goes into making this happen, as Amy Mollin — our Vice President of Product Management — explained in her Dobson blog post. But when it all comes together, there are magical moments when everything is effortless.
In fact, one of our major goals for Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP) is to make the work of IT and developers effortless. From observability and performance to security and authentication, GWCP takes care of the details so your developers (and ours) can focus on innovation and value creation. And, as Amy mentioned in her blog, this work is ongoing — we update GWCP every few weeks.
One of the most exciting new capabilities that we announced with Dobson is that GWCP now supports blue/green deployments. This enables developers to promote code to production without disrupting users. While the existing “blue” environment is running, a “green” second environment is created with new changes. You’re then able to switch users from blue to green seamlessly. It also means that you don’t have to wait for a maintenance window to deploy new innovations to the market.
Blue/Green Deployments
At our recent Connections user conference, we also announced Workset Manager*, which automates the software development lifecycle as code and configurations move through each step in the pipeline (e.g., Development, QA, UAT, etc.). This ultimately means you’ll be able to deploy changes much faster and easier.
In Guidewire Cloud Console (GCC), we recently added two more self-serve capabilities. First, you can now deploy Cloud Data Access for both production and non-production environments. Second, you can back up and restore databases in non-production environments to accelerate testing and troubleshooting. These are just two of the latest additions to the growing number of self-serve capabilities in GCC.
If you’d like to learn more, I highly recommend watching the Connections recording of “Guidewire Cloud Platform: Explore the Latest Innovations.” In this session, Product Management leads Gal Josefsberg, Nick Floeck, and Chris Vavra discuss all of these innovations — and more! It’s available on demand here and on YouTube.
And with that, I’m off to plan my next ski trip to Lake Tahoe!
