Guidewire Software (UK) Limited - Modern Slavery Statement

This statement is made on behalf of Guidewire Software (UK) Limited (“Guidewire UK ”) pursuant to s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 for the year ending 31 July 2020. It sets out the steps that Guidewire UK and its parent company, Guidewire Software Inc (“Guidewire”) have undertaken and are continuing to take in order to ensure that modern slavery or human trafficking is not taking place within our global business or our supply chain.

Guidewire UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Guidewire Software, Inc which is a publicly listed company on the New York Stock Exchange. Guidewire is the platform the Property and Casualty insurers trust to engage, innovate and grow efficiently. Guidewire combines core operations, digital engagements, analytics and AI applications delivered as a cloud service or self managed software to the global P&C insurance industry.

Guidewire’s core operational products are InsuranceSuite via Guidewire Cloud, InsuranceNow, and InsuranceSuite for self-managed installations. These products are core transactional systems of record that support the entire insurance lifecycle, including insurance product definition, distribution, underwriting, policyholder services, and claims management.

More than 450 insurers, from new ventures to the largest and most complex in the world, run on Guidewire.

Guidewire headquarters operations are located in San Mateo, California. We have 26 offices worldwide including London, Toronto, Brazil, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Dublin and Krakow.

To demonstrate our commitment to our implementation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 we are putting together a team to start work on compiling a supplier Code of Conduct which sets out Guidewire’s standards, in particular our commitment to complying with human slavery and human trafficking laws, ethical conduct and inclusion. We are focusing on updating our global procurement assessment process by including a requirement for future suppliers to disclose their position on human slavery (and trafficking) and requesting they provide relevant policies and statements that support their position.

Employees

We have a global Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and an Employee Handbook (for our UK employees) both of which are published on our intranet site. Our employees are aware of their duty to report actual or possible violation of policy or law and we do not permit any unlawful retaliation against any employees who makes such a report in good faith.

Due Diligence in our Business and in Our Supply Chain

Our supply chain includes suppliers that provide a wide range of products and services such as marketing, Public Relations and recruitment.

Guidewire is committed to the highest professional standard and ethics and we expect such high standards from all the parties we work with. We expect all our suppliers to comply with local and national laws and regulations.

We have undertaken an internal risk assessment and have concluded that as a technology company focused on developing a platform for the insurance industry and providing professional services to assist our customers in implementing and running the same, the risk of trafficking or slavery in our direct workforce is very low.

We recognize that we have a responsibility to identify and address any potential or actual human rights impacts that are linked to the products and services we acquire. We encourage our suppliers to uphold and maintain the same standards as we apply to ourselves. We have adopted the approach of firstly focusing on our direct suppliers and then looking more closely at our indirect suppliers, especially in the sectors where any risk is more likely to exist.

Next steps for Guidewire

We will be working with the Guidewire Procurement Team over the next 12 months to review and improve our procurement processes. This review will include implementing additional measures to ensure that our obligations in respect of modern slavery are passed down through our supply chain. As part of this review we aim to:

  • Request policies and initiatives in respect of modern slavery compliance from potential suppliers as part of the RFP stage;
  • Include the following requirements in our contracts with suppliers:
    (a) A requirement for the supplier to confirm in writing that they have the adequate policies and procedures in place within their company to ensure there is no slavery or human trafficking at any stage within their business or supply chain;
    (b) A requirement for suppliers to provide us with the necessary information to confirm the requirement at (a) above;
    (c) An option for us to terminate the contract in the event there is a breach of (a) and/or (b) above.
  • Incorporate training to all persons involved in the global procurement process to outline the importance of us being fully compliant with the review goals set out above.
